Welcome to The Thomas Alleyne Academy Learning Support Department. We believe that all students have a right to a broad and balanced education and this includes those students who are from minority ethnic and faith groups, those who are academically weak, have specific learning difficulties, have visual, hearing or physical impairment and those with emotional difficulties as well as the more able who may be underachieving or need to be extended.
Our Learning Support Department is based in the main area of the academy above the library which ensures that students continue to be part of the whole academy community at all times.
Most of our work takes place in lessons as we firmly believe that students benefit from remaining in the mainstream wherever possible. However we do provide individualised support programmes for students who need extra intervention.
We have a Learning Support Unit which assists students in a variety of ways. The main emphasis of this support is placed on enabling the student to manage in the mainstream classroom, and become independent and therefore relevant activities undertaken will include;
- Setting individual targets for improved learning and behaviour, including achievable targets.
- Anger Management and social skills development.
- Extensive literacy and numeracy work, where appropriate.
