At The Thomas Alleyne Sixth Form we believe that academic life needs to represent much more than teaching the main stream curriculum.  We live in a continually evolving world and through an annual Enrichment Programme we are able to offer a broad spectrum and extensive range of experiences that enrich and underpin our curriculum. The programme is designed to ensure that our students are motivated and inspired. At the heart of our planning is development and enhancement of skills required for the world beyond higher education and into employment.

Through this programme we continually strive to raise students’ aspirations and awareness and to encourage them to maintain a professional attitude to every task they face.  We provide varied and bespoke activities which enable our students to engage in a reflective journey leading to the increase of their independence, confidence and abilities.  Through the study skills programme we are able to harness the talents and expertise of prominent key note speakers in education and the local business community.  We have very strong links with our Outreach Liaison Officers at both the University of Bedfordshire and the University of Hertfordshire and other higher education providers.

We are extremely proud of the provision made available to our students and are continually reviewing and improving the activities offered.  Some of the subject matter covered includes: Life skills, financial awareness, raising funds for charities in the local community and Offsites Visits.  Here are a few of the many activities which our students have participated in so far this year.  We have been delighted to have welcomed the following guest speakers to our Academy:

Networking with businesses in our local community has resulted in many exciting work experience placements and work shadowing opportunities for our students.  Earlier this term our Year 12 students participated in an undergraduate shadowing scheme where they spent the whole day at the University of Hertfordshire with current undergraduate students.  They were able to see and experience live lectures, discuss subject content with students and speak to lecturers about post graduate careers.  Our students have also secured summer work experience places, through the above contacts, at Hill Partnership (www.hill.co.uk ) in Duxford and an independent financial advice company ‘Essentially Financial’ in Middlesex (www.essentiallyfinancial.co.uk).

Our Enrichment Programme encompasses many other aspects including independent living skills, budgeting, cooking and health and safety.  As part of the Higher Education preparation programme students were taught how to cope with emergencies at university, accommodation and insurance.  Please see photographs on this page of some of the events.
