The Curriculum

What are the aims of the curriculum?

The curriculum should enable all young people to become:

  • Successful students who enjoy learning, make progress and achieve
  • Confident individuals who are able to live safe, healthy and fulfilling lives
  • Responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society

In Key Stage 3 all students do essentially the same subjects determined by the National Curriculum. During Key Stage 4 there is a move towards a more flexible curriculum, which has been tailored to meet the needs of all our students to enable them to enjoy their learning experience at KS4, to maximise their potential and provide progression routes through to post-16 education or work.

Key Stage 4 Curriculum

Our curriculum aims are:

  • That every student is entitled to follow a challenging and balanced curriculum, appropriate to their abilities and needs
  • That no future opportunities will be ruled out because a student has not studied a broad range of courses
  • That the school curriculum satisfies national curriculum requirements
  • That there are good progression routes from Key Stage 4 to post 16

All students at The Thomas Alleyne Academy study a core of subjects, as well as choosing a Learning Route.  Please click here for the Year 9 Option Booklet which gives more details.
