Sixth Form Platinum Award

We are committed to ensuring that our sixth-form students have access to a strong extra-curricular programme.  This is designed to complement their subject studies and to help them further develop their leadership skills so that they feel fully prepared to move into the world of higher education and/or work by the end of Year 13.

We ensure our sixth-formers engage with a wide range of opportunities as soon as they enter Year 12 so that they can work towards achieving their platinum badge award. This award is an extension of our core values rewards system. The students begin by applying for their choice of prefect role, where we support them in leading on projects with younger groups of students in the school, allowing them to act as inspirational role models.

Prefect positions are available in the following categories:

Senior Prefect
STEM Prefect
Sports Prefect
Mental Health Prefect
Eco-Prefect
Media Prefect
Reading Prefect
Enrichment Prefect

The prefect role forms one part of the Platinum Award, and most students will complete all aspects of their platinum badge in Year 13 once we have supported them in meeting the full criteria as follows:

•       Successful role as a prefect
•       Supporting during a TAA Open Evening
•       Conducting a presentation in a formal setting
•       Acting as an ambassador for TAA
•       Attending a UCAS fair and an apprenticeship fair
•       Completing one virtual work experience placement
•       Engaging in at least two employer encounters
•       Supporting at least two whole-school events (ie. Fright Night, MacMillan cake sale…etc)
•       Visiting at least two universities/higher education institutions
•       Attending at least three trips/experiences linked to your A-level studies
•       Supporting Fun Run and Sports Day

Many of these character-building experiences can be included on applications for university, apprenticeships and work placements and they support our sixth-formers to leave Year 13 as confident young adults ready to move onto the next stage of their lives.

During my time in Sixth Form, I grew in independence and confidence as I had to push myself to achieve goals I never felt were possible. I made many new friends along the way as well as meeting new people when we went on university trips . I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere as a lot of my courses involved independent work, meaning I got to develop my relationships with teachers more as they offered me guidance
